Philosophy

Our Mission

Children First will ensure we provide a place of learning that is safe, inclusive, and free from racism, discrimination, and bullying for tamariki, kaiako mātua (adults), and whānau. We want to prepare tamariki to be life-long learners through quality interactions with kaiako, whānau, mātua and other tamariki.

We will deliver the highest quality curriculum service enabling tamariki and their whānau to be ready for the next part of their learning journey.

Our Vision

Children First encourages tamariki to reach their full potential through respectful, responsive relationships in a play-based environment.

We will whakamana (empower) tamariki to be confident learners and effective communicators, with a great sense of mana atua (well-being) and mana whenua (belonging).

Philosophy

At Children First, we believe each tamaiti is precious, unique, valued and must be accepted and respected no matter their cultural heritage, background or abilities and will be treated with respect, dignity and love by all kaiako, kaimahi and whānau in our whare. We will provide exceptional care and education for all tamariki and their whānau.

We believe that communication is valued and is supported through everyday interactions with all kaiako.

It is understood that there are many forms of communication, and we will use different strategies to get the voices of all the tamariki that we teach alongside within our planning and assessment.

We believe differences are acknowledged and celebrated.

We will celebrate and acknowledge Tiriti O Waitangi and show respect to all cultures.

We want to give all tamariki the same opportunities to learn and develop to their full potential and believe this can be done by tamariki seeing themselves and their culture valued within our whare.

This will be carried out in a safe and supportive environment.

We believe tamariki are individuals, and are given the time and opportunity to explore, create and play with and alongside others, and we base this on the guiding principles of Te-Whariki.

We will provide a fun and nurturing environment that offers the tamariki challenges to test themselves and the theories that they hold about the world around them.

Tamariki will gain positive attitudes towards learning and will have intrinsic motivation to learn and become life-long learners.
